Women's Soccer Grows, but Players Face Problems

Many women soccer players have money problems and need more help with their mental health.

Women's soccer could soon be a billion-dollar business. But many players still get low pay and have short work agreements. Fifpro, a group that speaks for players, asked more than 800 women about their lives. All played in their country's top league.

The survey asked why players might leave soccer early. Money was a reason for 59%. Stress was a reason for 46%. Also, 57% had problems with their mental health. Half of these players got no help from their clubs.

Only about two in three players get paid for all 12 months of the year. Fifpro wants the sport to grow. But it also wants better care for players. Players need a say in decisions about their lives.
