Doctors often use stitches to join soft parts of the body during surgery. Small mistakes can let blood or other liquids leak out. Stitches can also hurt these body parts. SanaHeal, a company started at MIT, wants to give doctors another choice.
Its sticky material works like tape. It quickly sticks to wet, uneven body parts. It forms a tight cover that stops air and liquids from passing through.
The material already has approval to stop bleeding from injuries. Next year, the company will start tests in people for use during surgery. These tests will focus on stopping bleeding and fixing injured body parts. SanaHeal works with larger medical companies to develop products.
