Scientists from the University of British Columbia and the University of Toronto found a new cleanup route in mice. It carries fluid and waste from the back of the eye into a body system. This system removes waste and helps fight illness.
The back of the eye changes light into signals for the brain. This work produces waste. Too much waste and fluid can build up there. This buildup is linked to diseases that harm sight.
Scientists still need to study how this route works in people. They also want to learn if helping it work better could protect sight. It is not a treatment yet.
