2,800-Year-Old Bone Flute Unearthed at Troy

The first musical instrument unearthed at Troy after more than 150 years of excavation is a bone flute that may have been played around the time Homer composed his epic poems.

A flute crafted from bone has been unearthed in the ruins of Troy, the ancient city in present-day Turkey. Approximately 2,800 years old, the instrument may have been played around the time Homer composed The Iliad and The Odyssey.

Excavations at Troy have continued for more than 150 years. Despite that long history of archaeological work, the bone flute is the first musical instrument discovered at the site.
