Wallace’s giant pumpkin breaks the 3,000-pound barrier

A 3,156-pound pumpkin grown by Rhode Island’s Ron Wallace has become the largest fruit ever, surpassing Ian Paton’s week-old record.

Rhode Island grower Ron Wallace established a world record on 10 October with a pumpkin weighing 3,156 pounds. The first pumpkin to exceed the 3,000-pound threshold, it also became the largest fruit ever grown.

Wallace’s achievement surpassed a record established just a week earlier by British grower Ian Paton. Paton’s pumpkin had weighed nearly 2,857 pounds, before being overtaken by Wallace’s substantially heavier entry.
