Swedish broadcaster TV4 has postponed its version of The Challenge after losing the completed season about five weeks before its planned launch. The series was due to begin on 22 November, but it will now appear in 2027. TV4 says a technical failure caused the loss.
The newspaper Aftonbladet reported that the production company had allowed an AI agent to access its server, a computer used to store files. According to unnamed people quoted by the newspaper, the agent deleted the finished season, which could not be recovered. Hundreds of days of work were lost. TV4's news division initially repeated the claim about AI. However, Mia Lindqvist, the broadcaster's head of programmes, later denied that an AI agent was responsible.
TV4 says all the original video remains available, but the team must edit the whole season again from the beginning. AI agents are programmes that use software tools to perform tasks for users. Depending on the access they receive, they can change files or computer systems. Problems can occur if they misunderstand instructions or fail to judge the results of their actions.
