Scientists in Canada have found a new route at the back of the eye. They studied it in mice. It appears to carry fluid and waste into a network that helps the body remove waste.
The back of the eye changes light into signals for the brain. This work uses energy and makes waste. A build-up of fluid and waste is linked to eye diseases. These diseases can cause lasting sight loss.
The discovery could help scientists find new ways to protect sight. They still need to study how this route works in people. It does not yet offer a new treatment.
