Lions Women announce first match against France

France will provide the team's first challenge in Cardiff ahead of its first New Zealand tour in 2027.

The British and Irish Lions Women's rugby team will play their first-ever match against France on 27 August 2027. The game will take place at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, giving supporters their first chance to watch the team play at home. Called the Howden Lions Women's Cup, it will come before the team's first tour of New Zealand.

Head coach Jo Yapp believes France will provide the right challenge before the tour. She highlighted their strong defence and dangerous attacking play. Yapp also encouraged fans to support the squad at a match she described as a special moment in the team's history.

The New Zealand tour will begin against a Black Ferns XV in Whangārei on 4 September. The Lions will then face the Black Ferns, New Zealand's team, in three Tests, or international matches. These will take place in Auckland on 11 September, Wellington on 18 September and Christchurch on 25 September. Between the first two Tests, the Lions will also play an invited team in Hamilton on 14 September.
