Celtic's Jota says he has returned with greater strength and appreciation for football after an 18-month injury absence. The 27-year-old Portuguese player took another important step on Sunday, when he came on at half-time in Celtic's 7–1 victory over Hearts at Celtic Park.
Jota suffered a serious knee injury in April 2025, as Celtic secured the league title at Tannadice. His recovery was difficult, but his love of football encouraged him to keep working towards full fitness. Even when progress was frustrating, his aim was to return in good health rather than rush back. He believes he is still young and has a long career ahead.
The experience also changed how Jota views his life and career. Being away from the game allowed him to consider things differently and appreciate what he had previously valued less. He now enjoys every opportunity to train or play. Rather than seeing the absence as lost time, he believes he grew through the difficulties and emerged stronger, with a clearer understanding of himself and what he wants.
