Avengers: Doomsday faces editing crisis

Avengers: Doomsday, due in December 2026, is reported to be in trouble during post-production after filming began before the script was complete.

Marvel is expected to have a much stronger 2026, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day arriving in the summer and Avengers: Doomsday set for the end of the year. Both films are expected to do very well at the box office. Even so, the latest reports suggest that Doomsday is not sailing smoothly into release.

According to people close to the production, the film has hit serious problems in the editing stage. Filming began before the script was complete, and that choice now appears to have created major difficulties. The film has been described as messy, and its huge cast may be one reason the pieces are proving hard to fit together.

The story brings together Sam Wilson’s new Avengers, the Thunderbolts, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men and the Wakandans against Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr. Some X-Men actors from earlier films, including Patrick Stewart, James Marsden and Rebecca Romijn, return as their characters. The film is directed by the Russo Brothers, who also made Infinity War and Endgame, and it is due to be released on 18 December 2026.
