Brock Purdy has become the NFL's career passer rating leader after reaching the 1,500-attempt qualification threshold in San Francisco's 23–17 victory over the Washington Commanders. The 49ers quarterback's rating of 105.6 places him ahead of Lamar Jackson on 102.7 and Aaron Rodgers on 101.8. For the final selection in the 2022 draft, the milestone marks a striking ascent. He also leads the league this season with 14 touchdown passes.
Much of Purdy's efficiency stems from his command of Kyle Shanahan's offensive system, which demands anticipation, precise timing and rapid interpretation of defensive movement. Rather than waiting for receivers to become open, he recognises opportunities as they develop. His accuracy is particularly valuable when placing passes over linebackers and beneath deeper defenders. Among active quarterbacks, his career completion percentage of 68.1% ranks second. Although he lacks the most imposing physical attributes, his mobility enables him to evade pressure: he has taken just five sacks in 2026, the fewest of any quarterback.
That individual skill operates within an exceptional supporting structure. Christian McCaffrey and George Kittle generate additional yardage after catches, increasing the value of relatively straightforward throws, while Trent Williams supplies dependable protection at left tackle. Mike Evans has also been an influential addition this season. Their contributions are significant to Purdy's production, but the relationship works both ways: his anticipation and decision-making help the surrounding talent flourish. His rise therefore reflects both his own development and the strengths of San Francisco's system and personnel.
