Apple says some iPhone Duo phones have a problem with the inside screen. The Duo is Apple's first phone that folds, and its price starts at $1,999. It went on sale in shops on Friday.
Some owners say their screens broke after only hours or days. They saw cracks near the middle of the screen, or bright lines and white areas. Some heard a crunch when they opened the phone. Apple says most Duo phones do not have this problem. It says the fault appears soon after people start using an affected phone.
The repair group iFixit took a Duo apart. It thinks a part inside the fold may press against the screen. A small bar may not move down far enough. This is a possible cause, not a confirmed answer.
Apple tells owners with screen problems to contact AppleCare for a replacement phone. Some owners already have new phones, but others must wait. Shops have few Duos available. Orders sold out within minutes when Apple first started taking them.
